Clean-up isn’t, well, always clean…

Our name might be Storage Deluxe but we know a thing or two about snow clean-up! Below is a snow removal guide that will have your car cleaned and ready to go in minimal time!

The night before a snow storm, back your car in to the driveway and park as close to the road as possible so you don’t have to shovel the entire driveway to get out.

Before starting to clean, remember: dress warmly. Be sure to wear gloves (as your hands will get incredibly cold, otherwise), and you won’t be able to keep clearing the car. Wear layers of clothes, as you might need to remove the snow jacket if the going gets too hot while clearing off deep snow. If the snow is above your winter boots, take a tall bag like a trash bag and put on before your boots. You can either tie the trash bag as high up as you need or use a rubber band to keep from slipping or letting snow in.

Your best tool when there is a lot of snow piled up on the car is a broom with feathered, soft bristle tips to do the main removal work. Don’t use a shovel or tough bristled broom as these will scratch the car. Once most snow is off, you can use another careful approach to removing the snow from the car: use an old towel and shake it out from time to time.

Start from the top of your car and work your way down. Brush the snow off the roof of your car onto the ground then, and then brush off the hood and back of the car. If your vehicle is higher than you, use a small step ladder and a broom to push off the snow. Use a scraper to clear the windshield, side windows, side mirrors, back window and any parts of the roof and hood that are not yet free of ice. Do not pour warm water on the windshield as this will cause the glass to crack!

Shovel the removed snow well away from the car and then start by digging around the wheels and the sides of the car, especially the driver’s door. Make sure to free up the wipers, if frozen. If they were running when you stopped the car, it may damage the wiper motor if you start the car and they are not free to move.

Once the car is snow free and it looks as though you are able to move the car freely, start the car. Turn on the heat and rear defroster. Wait about 10 minutes for the car to warm up.

Now, you’re good to go in minimal time!
